Understanding the 1X2 Market
The 1X2 market (also called Match Result or Three-Way Moneyline) is the most basic and popular soccer betting market. It's what casual bettors gravitate toward because it's simple: you're predicting the outcome of the match after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
The Three Options:
- 1 = Home Team Win
- X = Draw
- 2 = Away Team Win
Critical Rule: 1X2 bets only count the result after 90 minutes + injury time. They do NOT include extra time or penalties. If you bet on a team to win in a cup match and they only win in extra time, your 1X2 bet LOSES.
The Heavy Favorite Trap
Beginners see a team like Manchester City at 1.20 odds and think, "This is free money!" Let's do the math:
- Odds of 1.20 = 83.3% implied probability
- This means City is expected to lose or draw roughly 1 out of every 6 matches
- To make a R100 profit, you must risk R500
- If you lose just ONE of those six bets, you've wiped out all your profits from the five winners
This is why professional bettors rarely touch heavy favorites in the 1X2 market. The risk-to-reward ratio is mathematically terrible.
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
The BTTS market removes the pressure of predicting who wins. You're simply betting on whether BOTH teams will score at least one goal during the match.
The Two Options:
- BTTS - Yes: Both teams must score (1-1, 2-1, 3-2, etc.)
- BTTS - No: At least one team fails to score (0-0, 1-0, 0-3, etc.)
When to Bet BTTS
BTTS is ideal for matches where both teams have strong attacks but weak defenses, the teams are evenly matched, or historical data shows both teams regularly score against similar opposition.
When to AVOID BTTS
Avoid this market if one team has a world-class defense and the other has a toothless attack, if it's a high-stakes derby where both teams play cautiously, or if weather conditions are terrible.
Pro Tip: Always check the "BTTS Percentage" for each team. If Team A has BTTS in 70% of their home games, and Team B has BTTS in 65% of their away games, this is a strong statistical indicator.
Over/Under Goals Market
The Over/Under market is the most liquid and popular soccer betting market globally. You're betting on the TOTAL number of goals scored in the match by BOTH teams combined.
The Standard Line: Over/Under 2.5 Goals
- Over 2.5: You need 3 or more goals total (2-1, 3-0, 2-2, etc.)
- Under 2.5: You need 2 or fewer goals total (0-0, 1-0, 1-1, 2-0)
How to Analyze Over/Under Markets
Don't just look at average goals per game. Dig deeper into Home/Away splits, recent form (last 5 games), head-to-head history, motivation levels, and Expected Goals (xG) to see if a team's goals are sustainable or just lucky.

The "Banana Skin" (Beginner Mistake)
Beginners see odds of 1.50, 1.60, 1.45, and 1.70 on four "safe" matches and think, "Let me combine them all into one big accumulator for massive profits!" The reality is that while the combined odds look huge, the probability of all four hitting is incredibly low. Professional bettors almost NEVER play large accumulators because the bookmaker's margin compounds with each leg. Stick to single bets to protect your bankroll.
The Compliance Corner
At Betbizi, we believe that true intelligence includes knowing when to step back. Sports betting must always remain a form of entertainment, never a solution to financial problems.
