Your Bonus Details

Sports bonuses usually sit between 3x and 8x.

Most South African bookmakers build a 3-7% margin into their odds. If you don't know, 5% is a safe average.

Sports bonuses vary. Some roll over the bonus only, others the deposit plus bonus. Check your T&Cs.

Estimates assume you bet at the bookmaker's average margin (sports) or the slot's house edge (casino), and that stakes count 100% toward rollover. Real terms vary by bookmaker, so always read the T&Cs. 18+. Play responsibly. SARGF Helpline: 0800 006 008.

How the math works

1. The wagering wall

A 5x rollover on a R1,000 bonus means R5,000 in bets before you can withdraw. If it applies to deposit plus bonus, the wall doubles to R10,000. That number is the price of the "free" money.

2. The hidden cost

Every bet carries a cost: the bookmaker's margin for sports, or the slot's house edge for casino games. Wagering R10,000 at a 5% cost means the math expects you to lose around R500 on the way to clearing the bonus.

3. The verdict

If the bonus is bigger than the expected cost of clearing it, the deal has real value. If the expected loss eats the bonus, it is a trap dressed up as a gift. The calculator tells you which one you are holding.

Betbizi field note: the SA casino reality

Most South African casino bonuses carry a 30x to 40x rollover on the bonus only. A R1,000 bonus at 35x means R35,000 in spins. At a 5% house edge, the math expects you to lose about R1,750 on the way to clearing it. More than the bonus itself. That is not a gift, that is a paid audition. Run the numbers before you deposit.

Questions, answered

What is a rollover requirement?

The number of times you must bet the bonus, or the deposit plus bonus, before the money becomes withdrawable. It is the single most important number in any betting offer.

What is typical in SA casinos?

Most South African casino bonuses carry 30x to 40x on the bonus only. A R1,000 bonus at 35x means R35,000 in spins before withdrawal. Sports bonuses are usually lower, 3x to 8x, but often on deposit plus bonus.

Why does the margin or house edge matter?

Because rollover forces you to place many bets, and the margin or house edge charges you a small fee on every one of them. Small fee times hundreds of bets becomes a real cost.

How do I know my slot's house edge?

Most slots display their RTP (Return to Player). A 96% RTP means a 4% house edge. A 92% RTP means an 8% house edge. If you don't know the RTP, choose 5% as a safe average.
