Early Life: Born Into Armenian Football Royalty

Born on 21 January 1989 in Yerevan, Armenia, Mkhitaryan grew up with a ball at his feet. His father, Hamlet Mkhitaryan, was a legendary Armenian professional striker whose early death profoundly shaped Henrikh’s drive to succeed in the sport. The family spent a brief period in France during his toddler years before returning to Yerevan, where Mkhitaryan joined the youth system of FC Pyunik at age six.

His natural technical talent and dedication were obvious. By age 17, Mkhitaryan broke straight into Pyunik's senior first team, instantly dominating the domestic league and paving the way for a highly anticipated leap into the European circuit.

Major Achievements: Continuous Continental Success

Mkhitaryan’s trophy laden career has traversed Europe's grandest stages. He rose to global prominence at Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund before making a high profile switch to the English Premier League. He made history as the first Armenian to play in England, lifting the 2017 UEFA Europa League with Manchester United and scoring the definitive winning goal in the final. Following a successful spell at AS Roma where he clinched the inaugural 2022 UEFA Conference League title under José Mourinho, he joined Inter Milan on a free transfer.

Recognizing his impeccable professionalism, Inter Milan officially signed him to a one year contract extension, binding him to the club until June 2027 under manager Cristian Chivu.

Personal Life: The Polyglot and Humanitarian Focus

Away from the intense stadium spotlights, Mkhitaryan is renowned for his extraordinary intellect and humble demeanor. He is a highly accomplished polyglot who fluently speaks eight languages, including Armenian, French, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, English, Italian, and German. He holds multiple degrees from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and the St. Petersburg Institute of Foreign Economic Relations. Married to Apostolia Vardanyan, he is a dedicated family man and a passionate UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador who uses his platform to champion children's causes globally.
